Are you a resilient and compassionate teacher who thrives on making a real difference? We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teacher to join a supportive and well-structured secondary school in Tameside, working with students who require additional social, emotional and mental health support.

This is a highly rewarding role for a teacher who understands that strong relationships, consistency and patience can transform a young person’s future.

The Role – What to Expect

You will teach small groups of secondary-aged students with SEMH needs, many of whom may have experienced barriers to learning in mainstream settings. The focus is on rebuilding confidence, improving emotional regulation and re-engaging students with education.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering adapted, engaging lessons tailored to individual needs and abilities
  • Supporting students with emotional regulation, behaviour, and social skills
  • Creating a calm, structured, and predictable classroom environment
  • Using positive behaviour strategies and restorative approaches
  • Working closely with pastoral teams, therapists, and external professionals
  • Supporting students towards reintegration, qualifications, and positive outcomes

The School Environment & Facilities

The school is purpose-built to support students with SEMH needs and offers:

  • Small class sizes and high staff-to-student ratios
  • Dedicated pastoral and behaviour support teams
  • Calm rooms and reflection spaces for emotional regulation
  • On-site therapy and wellbeing support (counselling, mentoring, intervention programmes)
  • Vocational and practical learning facilities, including workshops and life-skills areas
  • Structured routines and clear behaviour frameworks to support consistency
  • A strong focus on student wellbeing, resilience, and personal development

Support from Leadership & Staff

You will be part of a highly supportive and experienced team, including:

  • Approachable and proactive Senior Leadership Team
  • Specialist SEMH Teaching Assistants and Behaviour Mentors in every class
  • Ongoing CPD and training in trauma-informed practice, de-escalation, and behaviour support
  • Regular wellbeing check-ins and staff support initiatives
  • A collaborative culture where staff work together to share strategies and successes

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential
  • Experience teaching secondary students (SEMH or behaviour experience desirable)
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Full-time availability

Why This Role is Rewarding

Working in SEMH allows you to make a lasting impact on young people who need the right adult to believe in them. Every small success – improved attendance, positive behaviour, renewed confidence – represents a significant step forward in a student’s life.
