SEMH Primary Teacher (Open to ECTs / New Teachers & Mainstream Primary Teachers)
We are recruiting a passionate and resilient SEMH Primary Teacher to join a supportive specialist primary setting in Tameside, working with pupils aged 5–11. This role is an excellent opportunity for ECTs / newly qualified teachers looking to begin their career in a nurturing SEMH environment, as well as mainstream teachers who are keen to transition into specialist education and develop their skills supporting pupils with additional needs.
The school supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including emotional regulation difficulties, anxiety, attachment, trauma-related behaviour, challenges with behaviour and engagement in learning. Pupils benefit from small class sizes, clear routines and a calm, relationship-led approach to help them feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
You will be joining an experienced and collaborative team, working alongside teaching assistants, SENCOs, pastoral staff and external professionals. The school offers strong leadership support, consistent behaviour systems and ongoing SEMH-focused training to help staff thrive in their roles.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in line with the primary curriculum
- Create a calm, structured and supportive classroom environment
- Support pupils’ academic progress alongside their emotional and social development
- Use trauma-informed and positive behaviour strategies to support regulation
- Implement EHCP targets, individual learning plans and behaviour support strategies
- Work closely with teaching assistants and the wider support team
- Monitor progress and celebrate pupil achievements
Requirements
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (ECTs encouraged to apply)
- Mainstream primary teachers welcome, with full support provided for the transition into SEMH
- Calm, patient and resilient approach
- Confident managing behaviour using positive and consistent strategies
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
- Right to work in the UK

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
