Location: Central Cornwall
Start Date: September 2025 (or sooner)
Contract: Full-time | Temporary (potential for permanent)
Pay: From £166.32 per day
Working Days: Monday to Friday
Agency: Teaching Personnel

Are you an experienced and empathetic teacher with a passion for supporting autistic pupils? Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a Specialist Autism Provision (ASD base) in Central Cornwall to recruit a full-time SEN Teacher to join their committed team from September 2025, or earlier.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a small, nurturing environment dedicated to meeting the complex needs of autistic learners who may also experience communication differences, sensory sensitivities, and social or emotional challenges.

The Role:

You will be responsible for delivering tailored, structured learning to a small group of pupils aged 5–11 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). Supported by experienced teaching assistants and the school’s SENCO, your role will focus on developing pupils’ communication, independence, life skills, and access to a modified curriculum. Many pupils may use alternative communication strategies and require a calm, consistent, and predictable classroom routine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver highly personalised lessons that meet pupils’ EHCP targets and individual needs
  • Implement visual supports, sensory strategies, and structured routines (e.g., TEACCH or SCERTS approaches)
  • Create a safe, calm, and low-stimulus learning environment
  • Use and support alternative communication systems such as PECs, Makaton, or AAC devices
  • Work collaboratively with the SENCO, therapists, and parents to ensure holistic pupil progress
  • Support pupils in managing transitions, sensory regulation, and emotional wellbeing

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential
  • Previous experience teaching autistic pupils, ideally in a specialist setting
  • Knowledge of autism-specific strategies such as TEACCH, SCERTS, Zones of Regulation, or sensory integration
  • Familiarity with EHCPs, personalised learning plans, and multidisciplinary input
  • Confidence in using alternative communication systems (e.g., PECs, Makaton, visuals)
  • A calm, patient, and adaptable approach to behaviour and learning support
  • Strong teamworking skills and a commitment to inclusive education

What We Offer:

  • Competitive daily pay starting from £166.32
  • A rewarding full-time role with potential for a permanent position
  • FREE access to CPD including Autism Awareness, Team Teach, and Safeguarding
  • Specialist SEN consultant support throughout your placement
  • A chance to work within a forward-thinking, supportive autism provision
