Location: Central Cornwall
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Full-time | Temporary (potential for permanent)
Pay: From £166.32 per day
Working Days: Monday to Friday

Teaching Personnel is working with a well-established SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provision in Central Cornwall to appoint a full-time Behavioural Support Teacher. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with young people who need patience, structure, and positivity to thrive in education.
The Role:
You will work with pupils aged 7–16 who present with significant behavioural needs, often associated with trauma, attachment difficulties, anxiety, and mental health barriers. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a flexible, therapeutic, and pupil-centred curriculum, often with reduced class sizes and a high staff-to-pupil ratio.
The role requires emotional intelligence, firm boundaries, and a commitment to helping pupils re-engage with learning in a safe, supportive setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver creative, individualised lessons designed to re-engage and support pupils with SEMH needs
- Promote positive behaviour and build trusting relationships using restorative and trauma-informed approaches
- Implement consistent boundaries, de-escalation strategies, and structured routines
- Work closely with behaviour mentors, teaching assistants, and pastoral leads to provide holistic support
- Monitor academic, social, and emotional progress, adapting provision accordingly
- Support pupils with reintegration into mainstream settings.
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential
- Experience teaching or supporting pupils with SEMH, behavioural needs, or those at risk of exclusion
- A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, emotional regulation strategies, and behaviour management techniques
- Experience working within a PRU, SEMH school, inclusion unit, or alternative provision is highly desirable
- Confidence in supporting pupils with challenging behaviour while maintaining clear, consistent expectations
- Ability to remain calm, compassionate, and solution-focused under pressure
- Strong teamwork skills and a commitment to inclusive, person-centred education

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
