Secondary Supply Teachers & Cover Supervisors
Job description
Secondary Supply Teachers & Cover Supervisors | Brighton | Flexible Day-to-Day Work
I’m looking for people I can confidently call at 6:30am.
That probably tells you quite a lot about this job already.
I work with secondary schools across Brighton and the surrounding areas, and I’m continuing to build my pool of reliable Supply Teachers and Cover Supervisors for day-to-day and pre-booked cover.
Schools can start contacting me from 6:30am, and occasionally earlier, when somebody has called in sick and they suddenly have lessons that need covering.
So there will be mornings when your phone rings early.
There will also be plenty of bookings arranged beforehand.
That’s the reality of day-to-day supply, and I’d rather explain it properly from the outset.
What I Need From You
You do not need to be available five days a week.
Two days? Fine.
One day? Still useful.
Availability that changes each week? We can work with that too.
What I need is communication and reliability.
If you’ve told me you’re available on Tuesday and a school calls me at 6:35am, I need to know there’s a reasonable chance you’ll answer or get back to me quickly.
If you’re no longer available, just tell me.
It really is that simple.
What I Can Offer You
In return, you get genuine flexibility over your working week.
Bookings can include:
- Same-day emergency cover
- Pre-booked daily supply
- Planned staff absence
- General classroom cover
- Subject-specific teaching
- Short-term placements
- Longer-term work when it becomes available
I’ll also try to get you back into schools you enjoy.
Once a school knows somebody is good, dependable and understands how they operate, they’ll often request that person again rather than continually having someone new.
Supply Teachers
For Supply Teacher bookings, I’m looking for qualified teachers across a range of secondary subjects.
You’ll generally need QTS or an appropriate equivalent.
This can be a good option if you still enjoy teaching but don’t currently want everything that comes with holding a permanent timetable.
Cover Supervisors
You do not need QTS to work as a Cover Supervisor.
You’ll supervise lessons using work provided by the school, manage classroom behaviour and keep pupils engaged while their usual teacher is absent.
Alongside experienced Cover Supervisors, I’m happy to speak with people from backgrounds such as:
- Sports coaching
- Youth work
- Tutoring
- Mentoring
- Graduates considering teaching
- Other roles involving responsibility for groups of young people
The important question is whether you can confidently walk into a secondary classroom and take charge of it.
Is Day-to-Day Supply Right for You?
If you need guaranteed work five days every week, probably not.
There are longer-term opportunities that may suit you better.
But if you want to work around another job, study, family commitments, semi-retirement or simply your own life, the flexibility can be really useful.
Having access to a car also helps considerably with last-minute bookings and gives you access to more schools, although it isn’t essential.
Practical Information
- Secondary schools across Brighton & surrounding areas
- Day-to-day and pre-booked work
- Opportunities throughout the 2026/27 academic year
- Competitive daily rates appropriate to the role
- Flexible availability
- CPD and training available
You’ll need an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service. If you don’t currently have one, you’ll need to apply through us and join the Update Service. I’ll support you with the process, although the cost is covered by the applicant.
We’ll also require a full employment and education history and references covering 24 months of employment in total where possible as part of our safeguarding checks.
Interested?
I’m not particularly interested in how many days you can give me.
I’m interested in whether we can build a good working relationship and whether I can rely on the days you do give me.
If flexible secondary supply around Brighton sounds like what you’re looking for, apply and let’s have a chat.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
