Secondary Supply Teachers & Cover Supervisors
Job description
Secondary Supply Teachers & Cover Supervisors | Brighton & Surrounding Areas
Enjoy working with young people, but want more choice over your working week? Secondary supply could be worth exploring.
I’m looking for Supply Teachers and Cover Supervisors across Brighton and the surrounding areas to support secondary schools throughout the 2026/27 academic year.
Whether you’re available several days each week or looking for occasional bookings, I’d be interested in hearing from you.
You tell me when you’re available, and I’ll look for suitable work around that.
Supply Teachers
I’m recruiting teachers across a range of secondary subjects, including ECTs, experienced teachers and those returning after a career break.
You’ll generally need QTS or an appropriate equivalent.
Bookings can range from general daily cover to subject-specific teaching and longer-term assignments. It’s an opportunity to experience different schools, build local connections and find settings you enjoy working in.
Cover Supervisors
You don’t need QTS to work as a Cover Supervisor.
You’ll generally supervise lessons using work prepared by the school, explain tasks, keep pupils engaged and manage the classroom during teacher absence.
Alongside experienced Cover Supervisors, I’m happy to speak with graduates, sports coaches, youth workers, tutors and mentors who have relevant experience working with groups of young people.
You’ll need confidence leading a group, clear communication and the ability to maintain boundaries. If you’re considering teacher training, it can also provide useful classroom experience before committing to that next step.
Making supply work for you
Some bookings are arranged in advance; others come through when a school has an unexpected absence that morning.
Schools can begin contacting me from around 6:30am, occasionally earlier, so same-day availability may mean an early call or message. If you prefer pre-booked work, let me know.
As you get to know schools, I’ll also want to hear which settings suit you. Where possible, we can build on those relationships through repeat bookings.
Day-to-day supply fluctuates, so work isn’t guaranteed. If you need a more consistent working pattern, we can discuss longer-term opportunities too.
Driving can open up more schools and short-notice bookings, but it isn’t essential.
The practical details
You’ll need an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service. If you don’t currently hold one, you’ll need to apply through us and join the Update Service. I’ll support you through the process, with the associated cost covered by the applicant.
We’ll also require your full employment and education history and references covering 24 months of employment in total where possible, prioritising recent and relevant employment.
Interested?
Apply and tell me about your experience, availability and travel preferences.
Whether you already work on supply or are thinking about trying it, let’s see how secondary cover around Brighton could fit into your week.
