Secondary Supply Teachers & Cover Supervisors
Job description
Secondary Supply Teachers & Cover Supervisors | Brighton & Surrounding Areas
Want to stay in the classroom without giving up control of your working week? Secondary supply could give you exactly that balance.
I’m currently expanding my network of Supply Teachers and Cover Supervisors across Brighton and the surrounding areas, supporting secondary schools with both planned and last-minute cover.
There’s no requirement to commit to five days a week.
You might want regular work across several days, one or two particular days each week or occasional bookings alongside other commitments.
You tell me when you’re available, and I’ll look for suitable work around that.
What does supply look like?
Some bookings are arranged days or weeks beforehand.
Others come through that morning when a school has unexpected staff absence.
Schools can start contacting me from around 6:30am, occasionally earlier, so if you’re open to same-day bookings there may be mornings when I contact you early with an opportunity.
If you prefer pre-booked work, that’s useful to know too.
The aim is simply to understand how you want supply to fit around your life.
Supply Teachers
I’m looking for qualified teachers across a range of secondary subjects. You’ll generally need QTS or an appropriate equivalent.
Supply can work particularly well for ECTs building experience, experienced teachers stepping away from permanent responsibilities, teachers returning after a break or anyone wanting greater flexibility.
Cover Supervisors
You don’t need QTS.
You’ll generally supervise lessons using work prepared by the school, support pupils to stay engaged and maintain the classroom environment during teacher absence.
Alongside experienced Cover Supervisors, I’m happy to speak with graduates, sports coaches, youth workers, tutors, mentors and others with relevant experience working with groups of young people.
Build familiarity without losing the flexibility
You’ll naturally find some schools you enjoy more than others.
Where possible, I’ll try to get you back into those settings when further bookings arise. Schools also regularly request supply staff they’ve had a positive experience with.
Over time, you can build familiarity with a group of schools while still choosing when you want to work.
Day-to-day supply does fluctuate, so work isn’t guaranteed. If you need a more consistent working week, we can also look at longer-term opportunities.
Driving is helpful and opens up more schools, but it isn’t essential.
You’ll need an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service, alongside the usual safeguarding checks, employment history and references covering 24 months of employment in total where possible.
Interested?
Whether you’re looking for several days each week or occasional work, apply and let’s have a chat about your experience and availability.
We can see how secondary supply around Brighton could work for you.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
