More flexibility, more variety, and the chance to work across secondary schools around Brighton without committing to a permanent timetable.

I'm currently expanding my network of Secondary Supply Teachers and Cover Supervisors across Brighton and the surrounding areas for the 2026/27 academic year.

You might be stepping away from permanent teaching, returning to education, building experience before teacher training or simply looking for work that fits more easily around the rest of your life.

That's exactly where supply can work well.

How flexible is it?

You tell me when you'd like to work, and I'll look for suitable opportunities on those days.

That could be several days each week, one regular day or availability that changes completely from week to week.

Some bookings are arranged in advance. Others happen because a school has an unexpected absence that morning.

Schools can begin contacting me from around 6:30am, and occasionally earlier, so if you're open to same-day work, there may be mornings when I contact you early with a booking.

If you'd rather focus on pre-booked work, that's fine too. Knowing how you'd like supply to fit around you helps.

Supply Teachers

I'm looking for teachers across a range of secondary subjects. You'll generally need QTS or an appropriate equivalent, and I'm happy to speak with ECTs as well as experienced teachers.

Bookings can range from general daily cover through to subject-specific teaching and longer-term assignments.

Cover Supervisors

You don't need QTS to work as a Cover Supervisor.

You'll generally supervise lessons using work already prepared by the school, support pupils to stay engaged and manage the classroom while their usual teacher is absent.

Alongside experienced Cover Supervisors, relevant backgrounds can include:

• Sports coaching
• Youth work
• Tutoring
• Mentoring
• Graduates considering teaching
• Other roles involving groups of young people

For anyone considering teacher training, it's also a useful opportunity to experience secondary school life properly before committing to that next step.

Finding schools you enjoy

Supply gives you the opportunity to experience different schools, and you'll naturally find some that suit you particularly well.

When that happens, let me know.

Schools also get to know the supply staff they enjoy having back, and where possible I'll try to build on those relationships.

Over time, you can develop a group of familiar schools while still keeping the flexibility that attracted you to supply in the first place.

A realistic picture

Day-to-day supply fluctuates, so work isn't guaranteed. There will be busy periods and quieter ones.

If you're looking for a consistent five-day working week, longer-term opportunities may suit you better and we can look at those too.

Driving isn't essential, although access to a car can open up more schools and short-notice bookings.

You'll need an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service. If you don't currently have one, you'll need to apply through us and join the Update Service. I'll support you through that process, although the associated cost is covered by the applicant.

We'll also require a full employment and education history and references covering 24 months of employment in total where possible.
