Job description

Future Teachers Programme (January 2027 Start)
Launch Your Teaching Career in Secondary Education

Are you a graduate considering a career in teaching? Perhaps you're working in another profession and looking for a more rewarding career where you can make a genuine difference every day. If so, the Future Teachers Programme with Teaching Personnel could be the ideal route into education.

We are recruiting ambitious graduates and career changers to join our January 2027 cohort, working in secondary schools across the region while gaining valuable classroom experience before progressing towards teacher training.

Why Choose the Future Teachers Programme?

The programme has been designed to bridge the gap between university, industry and teacher training. Over two years, you'll gain first-hand experience in secondary schools, develop essential classroom skills, and receive ongoing support to help you prepare for a successful career in teaching.

Whether your degree is in English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Languages, PE, Computing or the Arts, we want to hear from individuals who are passionate about inspiring young people.

Your First Year

During your first year, you'll be placed within a secondary school where you'll work closely with experienced teachers, pastoral teams and department leaders. You'll:

  • Support pupils both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Deliver small group interventions and one-to-one support.
  • Build behaviour management and classroom leadership skills.
  • Gain experience across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Develop an understanding of lesson planning, assessment and safeguarding.
  • Receive regular mentoring and professional development from Teaching Personnel and school staff.

This year is all about developing confidence, understanding school life and exploring whether teaching is the right long-term career for you.

Your Second Year

In the second year, you'll take on greater responsibility and continue developing the skills required for teacher training. Opportunities may include:

  • Leading sections of lessons.
  • Delivering pre-planned learning activities.
  • Supporting examination groups and targeted interventions.
  • Working closely with subject specialists within your chosen department.
  • Building a portfolio of evidence to strengthen future teacher training applications.

By the end of the programme, you'll have substantial school-based experience, making you a highly competitive candidate for salaried teacher training routes, School Direct programmes and PGCE courses.

The Schools

You'll work within welcoming and supportive secondary schools that are committed to developing future teaching talent. Placements may include:

  • Large 11-16 comprehensive schools.
  • High-achieving academies.
  • Mixed and single-sex secondary schools.
  • Schools with strong mentoring and professional development programmes.
  • Specialist schools with excellent facilities across a range of subjects.

Schools are looking for individuals who can become positive role models, support pupil progress and contribute to the wider school community.

Who We're Looking For

We're particularly interested in:

  • Graduates considering a future career in teaching.
  • Career changers looking for a meaningful and rewarding profession.
  • Individuals with experience in coaching, mentoring, tutoring, youth work or training.
  • Strong communicators who can build positive relationships with young people.
  • Passionate subject specialists who want to share their knowledge and inspire the next generation.

No previous school experience is necessary, although experience working with young people is advantageous.

Benefits

  • Paid experience in secondary schools.
  • Structured two-year development programme.
  • Ongoing mentoring and training.
  • Valuable classroom experience before teacher training.
  • Opportunities to progress onto teacher training routes.
  • Develop transferable leadership, communication and presentation skills.
  • Make a lasting impact on young people's lives.

If you're ready to explore a career in teaching and want to gain meaningful classroom experience before committing to formal teacher training, we'd love to hear from you.
