Job description

Graduate Teacher Training Programme – Secondary Schools

Bournemouth | £23,000–£27,000 | January 2027 Start

Graduated and Thinking About Teaching?

Have you recently graduated and started thinking about what comes next? If you enjoy working with young people and like the idea of a career where no two days are the same, teaching could be a great option.

Our 2-Year Salaried Graduate Teacher Training Programme gives you the chance to step into a secondary school, gain real classroom experience and work towards becoming a qualified teacher, while earning a salary from the start.

You don’t need to have studied Education at university or already have lots of school experience. We’re looking for graduates who have the right attitude, are confident working with people and are genuinely interested in exploring a career in teaching.

Your First Year – Get Experience in the Classroom

During your first year, you’ll work full-time as a Cover Supervisor in a secondary school in Bournemouth.

Rather than going straight into formal teacher training, you’ll have the chance to find your feet in a school and build up your confidence first.

Your role will include:

  • Delivering pre-planned lessons across the school
  • Managing a classroom and keeping pupils focused on their work
  • Building positive relationships with students and staff
  • Developing your behaviour management skills
  • Supporting pupils with their learning
  • Observing experienced teachers in the classroom
  • Taking part in regular training and development

It’s a great opportunity to put the skills you’ve developed through your degree into practice and get a real feel for teaching before moving onto the next stage.

Your Second Year – Train to Become a Teacher

Once you've completed your first year and built up your classroom experience, you'll progress onto formal teacher training.

During year two, you'll work towards your PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) while continuing to gain experience within a school.

You'll:

  • Complete your PGCE through a partner university
  • Work towards gaining QTS
  • Take on more responsibility within the classroom
  • Receive regular mentoring and support
  • Continue developing your teaching style and subject knowledge

By the end of the programme, you'll have built up two years of school experience alongside your teaching qualifications, giving you a strong start to your career in education.

What’s on Offer?

  • £23,000–£27,000 salary
  • January 2027 start
  • A structured two-year graduate route into teaching
  • Hands-on classroom experience from the beginning
  • Fully funded PGCE and QTS training
  • Regular training, mentoring and support
  • Opportunities in secondary schools across Bournemouth
  • A clear route into a teaching career

Who Are We Looking For?

This opportunity is particularly suited to recent graduates who are interested in education and would like to see where a career in teaching could take them.

You’ll need to:

  • Hold a UK bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Be enthusiastic about working with young people
  • Have good communication and organisational skills
  • Be confident, reliable and willing to learn
  • Be able to build positive relationships with pupils
  • Have a genuine interest in developing a career in teaching

Your degree doesn't necessarily need to be in Education. Whether you've studied English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Psychology, Sport, Languages or another subject, we'd be interested in hearing from you.

Previous school experience is useful, but it isn't essential. Your first year is there to help you build that experience and develop your skills in the classroom.
