We're recruiting Pastoral Support Workers to join welcoming and supportive schools across South Bristol, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, improve their wellbeing, and achieve success both inside and outside the classroom.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience in education, youth work, support work, mentoring, residential childcare, sports coaching, behaviour support, mental health support, or SEND. We also welcome applications from Psychology, Criminology, Education and Health & Social Care graduates who have practical experience working with children or young people.

As a Pastoral Support Worker, you'll play a vital role in helping pupils develop confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, and positive relationships, becoming a consistent and trusted adult during their school journey.

About the Role

You will work closely with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, providing personalised support throughout the school day.

You may support children and young people with:

• Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Autism (ASC)
• ADHD
• Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
• Anxiety and emotional regulation difficulties
• Behavioural challenges
• Additional learning needs

Your focus will be on helping pupils feel safe, engaged, supported, and ready to learn.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group pastoral support
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
• Support emotional wellbeing, resilience and confidence
• Help pupils manage behaviours and overcome barriers to learning
• Encourage positive attendance, engagement and participation
• Deliver mentoring and intervention sessions where appropriate
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and safeguarding teams
• Promote positive behaviour, independence and self-esteem
• Create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment

Essential Skills & Experience

• Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Calm, patient and resilient approach
• Ability to support emotional wellbeing and behaviour positively
• Empathy and a genuine desire to help young people succeed
• Reliable and committed to a long-term role
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Desirable Experience

• School-based experience
• SEN or SEMH support experience
• Youth work or mentoring experience
• Behaviour support training
• Team Teach training
• Understanding of safeguarding practices
• Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs
