NQT for Newham Primary

This vacancy has now expired.

Job description

Working with a partner Primary School in Newham Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a Newly Qualified Teacher to start in September. The school has a highly inclusive and multi-cultural environment in a setting with a lot of history. The school was actually designed on the theme of ships with masts and portholes to reflect the history of merchant ships in the area. The school is based in view of Canary Wharf and the Millennium Dome, near to the Excel Centre and the closest underground station is West Silvertown (DLR).

The school has close links to the local community including a partnership with a successful nearby secondary. There is a large development site nearby the school which will become a hub of education, research and innovation centres from early next year with the first stage just completed. As part of this, the school is opening a new school within the development and becoming a mutli-academy trust to support this. The school has high hopes this large investment in the local area will really allow the local community to flourish.

The school is a multi-cultural inclusive school which promotes a safe, caring and challenging creative environment. The school has high standards and expectations and was rated Ofsted 'Outstanding' at its most recent inspection (June 2013). The school believes children learn and develop best when the opportunities they are exposed to are creative, motivating and challenging. The school curriculum is rich in music, art, drama and dance and they also provide swimming, gymnastics and many sports and dance school clubs.

The school is committed to environmental initiatives and healthy living with many opportunities relating to this. They make good use of the school grounds with a wildlife garden, chickens and a pond. Children contribute to the environmental efforts of the school by recycling, composting and planting vegetables.

Pupils take a lot of pride in the school and behave very well in lessons and around the school. The headteacher leads the school with great enthusiasm to offer the best opportunities for pupils at their school. As a result of work from leaders and governors, teaching quality is improved through teamwork, nurture and support allowing new teachers to thrive in the school and become highly successful over time.

When asked by the Ofsted inspector what they like about the school, a student commented 'I like it all, it's brilliant!". If that sounds like the sort of environment you want to kick-start your career in, the school are looking to interview on a rolling basis over the next few weeks. Shortlisting criteria include:

  • PGCE, BA with QTS or SCITT qualification
  • A good team player able to establish good relationship with staff, students, parents, Governors and all others who have contact with the school
