Maths teaching assistant required to join a large and popular secondary school in Rochdale from September.

Are you an aspiring Maths teacher or a qualified teaching assistant with a specialism in Maths? Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a secondary school in Rochdale to recruit a Maths teaching assistant for their support staff team in the new academic year. The position is to cover maternity leave and will involve working alongside the Maths faculty, supporting teachers and students in lessons across the age and ability range, creating resources and monitor the progress of children within Maths. This is a full time position from September, initially temporary to cover a period of maternity leave, to be considered for this Maths teaching assistant position you will need to be/have;

  • Experience working within a secondary school environment (KS3/4)
  • A specialism for Maths and relevant qualifications as a teaching assistant
  • Knowledge of the National curriculum (AQA/Edexcel ideally)
  • Availability to undertake a maternity cover, full time from September
  • Confidence to lead small groups and in time lessons within Maths

Situated in Rochdale, this is a much larger than average secondary school with an Ofsted rating of good from the last inspection. The successful applicant working as a Maths teaching assistant will be fully supported by the Maths team, reporting directly to the faculty leader. This is a traditional faith school with modern facilities and a supportive Head teacher who has been inspirational in the recent success. The school offers on site secure parking to all staff and has good transport links to Rochdale town centre and also Oldham via busses and the Metrolink Tram.

Your role as a Maths teaching assistant will have varying responsibilities which will challenge you to develop your personal skills and ability to work under pressure in a child centred environment. In addition to supporting Maths teachers in lessons, you will lead small groups for exam revision, targeted intervention and also provide 1:1 support for children under achieving within Maths, previous experience as a teaching assistant or tutor is desirable.

This position would suit an experienced teaching assistant, or Maths graduate looking to pursue a career in education. The role will be covering maternity full time from September 2018, until at least February 2019 in the first instance.
