Do you believe that positive relationships can change a young person's future?
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a trauma-informed school, supporting children and young people who have experienced significant challenges in their lives. Many pupils may have social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), attachment difficulties, anxiety, or barriers to learning linked to adverse childhood experiences.
This is a highly rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference by helping pupils feel safe, valued, and capable of success. Working as part of a supportive team, you will play a vital role in creating an environment where young people can rebuild confidence, develop resilience, and re-engage with education.
The Role:
- Support pupils both in the classroom and through personalised interventions.
- Build strong, trusting relationships that promote emotional wellbeing and engagement in learning.
- Assist teachers in delivering creative and accessible learning opportunities.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, communication, and social development.
- Use a trauma-informed approach to understand behaviour and respond positively to challenges.
- Encourage independence, self-esteem, and positive decision-making.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and other professionals to support individual needs.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Experience working with children or young people, within education, care, youth work, or support settings.
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- An understanding of trauma-informed practice, SEMH needs, or a willingness to learn.
- Resilience and the ability to remain positive during challenging situations.
- A genuine passion for helping vulnerable young people overcome barriers and achieve their potential.
What We Offer:
- Full-time, term-time working hours.
- Opportunity for permanent employment
- Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
- Experience within a specialist trauma-informed educational setting.
- A supportive team committed to positive outcomes for young people.
- The opportunity to have a lasting impact on pupils' lives every day.
If you are passionate about supporting young people who have experienced adversity and believe in the power of relationships, consistency, and understanding, we would love to hear from you. Join a team dedicated to helping pupils feel safe, build confidence, and achieve success both in education and beyond
