Support with schools reopening

We have been approached by one of our Cardiff Secondary Schools to support with a vacancy ideally starting after the Easter break (April 12th). This role will be supporting for a learning support assistant with pupils that need additional support due to missed education because of the latest COVID-19 lockdown. These pupils have been highlighted as struggling to engage with working from home and therefore will need to be supported as they reintegrate in to school life. The role of a learning support assistant is to work in this mainstream Secondary school supporting mostly on a one-to-one basis and occasionally supporting with small groups of pupils that may need extra behavioural support in order to aid their education. In the past we have found that Psychology & Sports graduates or those with similar degrees are excelling in this area as well as people coming from a role where they have previously been giving care/support to vulnerable individuals. If this sounds like you we would welcome applications immediately.

These roles prove to be invaluable in gaining skills that test your behaviour management and confidence within the classroom. Challenging behaviour can come in many forms and does not always mean that it is disruptive anti- social behaviour. It can often be pupils who struggle to interact with their peers or find it difficult to concentrate for long periods of time and therefore need extra support to align their behaviour with the schools expectations.

Qualities for the successful candidate:

-Previous school based experience desirable but not essential

-Understanding of challenging behaviour

-Confidence to support in difficult situations

-Registered with the EWC or be prepared to complete registration

-Child workforce DBS on the update service (support will be given to submit this application)

-Two references that can be contacted

-Holding a driving license is advantageous

-You will be paid between GBP60-GBP70per day

Working alongside children that need extra support can be very rewarding and for the right candidate and can be the first steps to you developing into a well rounded future teacher. Additional learning support can come in all forms and often needs to be dealt with by using various skills and strategies. Havign a patient, caring and empathetic manor as well as being thick skinned and not easily offended will serve you well as no two days are the same and a child’s behaviour can quickly change. Teaching Personnel currently run a number of CPD courses such as Safeguarding, NASEN and Team Teach Training that can prepare you before you step inside a school. This training is ongoing throughout the school year and can enhance your career progression and lead to you feeling more comfortable within your surroundings.

If you are interested in gaining experience and using the skills picked up during your studies or previous work placements then please send a full CV through the link provided.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
