Responsible to: The Head of the school commissioned by the LA to deliver the Enfield Advisory Service for Autism
Job Purpose
- To work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary Advisory Service for Autism and the Headteacher of Russet House School Centre in overseeing the day-to-day management of the Service.
- To fulfil the duties of an Advisory Teacher.
Duties and Responsibilities
- To work collaboratively with all staff, including those contracted to the Service through an SLA, and maintain, develop, monitor and evaluate services delivered by the Autism Advisory Service to Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Post 16 educational settings in Enfield ensuring that the changing needs and demands within the LA are met.
- To act as a role model of good practice for all staff in the Service by modelling effective strategies.
- To ensure that the Service promotes practice that develops autism friendly environments.
- To advise schools and ARP's on planning, differentiating and delivering a mainstream curriculum to pupils and young people with autism.
- To work directly with schools as required, providing advice and strategies for identified pupils with autism and/or at a whole-school level, including about the assessment of such pupils.
- To advise colleagues about the assessment of pupils and young people with autism.
- To explain the diagnosis of autism to pupils and young people and their parents.
- To plan and deliver training for colleagues working with pupils and young people with autism in other settings. This involves liaison with the co-ordinator of the LA central CPD programme.
- To support, advise and supervise school staff working in the Service.
- To liaise with other Advisory/Outreach teachers working in Enfield.
- To ensure that the Service is represented at regional and borough meetings such as Secondary SENCO meetings, and the South East London Regional Network for Autism.
- To ensure that a bank of resources for autism, including books, CDs, visual timetables and schedules, social stories, model lesson plans, behaviour charts etc is maintained and further developed.
- To ensure that the Service website is up to date and relevant.
- To ensure that the Service keeps up to date with new research and literature in the field of Autism and share with colleagues and parents via the Service website.
- To ensure that literature about the service is up to date, making sure that it is well presented and accurate.
- To led on the performance management of staff employed by the Service
- To develop services and training programmes for parents of children and young people with autism in Enfield.
- To prepare information about pupils/young people as required and attend Service Management Meetings as required.
- To contribute to the production of an annual report for The Autism Strategy Group based on data collected highlighting the impact and outcomes of interventions and strategies recommended.
- To represent the Service at meetings in the community as required.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
