History Teacher – KS3/KS4 – Tameside Secondary School – September 2025

Position: Teacher of History
Location: Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside
Start Date: September 2025
Salary: MPS1–MPS6 (£32,916–£45,352) / UPS1–UPS3 (£47,472–£51,048)
Contract: Full-time, temporary-to-permanent (initial 12-month contract)

A high-achieving and inclusive secondary school in Ashton-under-Lyne is looking to appoint a qualified History teacher to join its Humanities faculty from September 2025. This is a long-term position with the potential for a permanent contract after an initial term. The successful candidate will be teaching History to KS3 and KS4 pupils, including preparation for AQA GCSE exams.

The school has recently been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, with particular strengths in leadership and pupil engagement. With a diverse intake and a strong emphasis on personal development, the Humanities department plays a key role in driving the school's cross-curricular values of justice, equality, and historical literacy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and challenging lessons across Years 7–11, following the AQA specification

  • Use a range of strategies to engage pupils from a variety of backgrounds, including those with SEND and EAL

  • Support the development of historical thinking, source analysis, and essay writing

  • Plan differentiated lessons that cater to mixed-ability groups

  • Assess, record, and report on pupil progress using whole-school tracking systems

  • Contribute to curriculum development, trips (e.g., Imperial War Museum North), and cross-subject links with English and RE

Person Specification:

  • QTS with specialism in History or Humanities

  • Experience teaching KS3 and KS4 (AQA GCSE preferred)

  • Strong knowledge of UK secondary curriculum and assessment frameworks

  • Excellent classroom management and commitment to restorative practice

  • Willingness to lead or assist with extracurricular clubs (e.g., Debate Society or History Film Club)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
