Experienced Teacher of the Deaf required for specialist provision in Bradford

  • BSL Level 1 required as a minimum
  • Previous experience of teaching Deaf or Hearing Impaired pupils
  • Available on a part time basis in September 2016

A specialist provision in Bradford are seeking an experienced Teacher to join their team in September 2016. This is a temporary role for one term in the first instance but there may be an opportunity for a longer term or permanent role within school. The role requires a teacher with experience teaching Deaf or Hearing Impaired pupils and you must possess BSL Level 1 as a minimum. A Teacher of the Deaf qualification would also be an advantage.

The provision is attached to a mainstream primary school and caters for children who require an auditory oral/aural approach to communication or British Sign Language (BSL).

In this role you will b required to:

•Take on a robust approach to assessment and target setting in order to monitor and ensure optimum progress and attainment for all pupils

•Have a bilingual approach to communication; emphasis is placed on the learning of English for all children as well as the development of BSL

•Maintain inclusion in all aspects of the curriculum and school life, for all deaf children

•Attend all school parents’ meetings and school events

•Conduct termly individual parent consultation meetings, sometimes in the home, to discuss pupils' individual learning targets and progress

You will be fully supported by a team of experienced Teachers of the Deaf (ToDs), Specialist Support Workers (SSWs), Deaf Instructors (DIs) and a Speech and Language Therapist (SALT). You will be required to liaise with this multi disciplinary team and contribute to report writing to meet the Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs of pupils alongside teaching duties.
