About the Job:

This Special School are seeking healthcare assistants with confidence interacting with children with sensory needs for the schools profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) department. They are looking for an engaging, innovative, and pro-active health care assistant who can inspire confidence in pupils with complex needs, parents and staff. The position is as a SEN teaching assistant, full-time starting in September 2020 and will include supporting in class, during school breaks and with therapy.

The successful candidate will be committed to helping pupils with complex and sensory needs reach their full potential and communicate with the world around them.

You will be a valued part of the whole school community who work together closely to provide an educational environment which celebrates the uniqueness of every child. You will make a difference supporting progress for children with autism alongside the class teacher and up to 3 other learning support assistants. You will need to support with additional areas dependant on pupil needs in personal care, moving and handling, feeding and/or medical administration. You will need to have a full appreciation of the importance of personal, communication, social and emotional development.

About the Special School (Ealing):

This Special School is situated in the London Borough of Ealing and has been ranked as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in their last two inspections. The school have a reputation for excellence in all aspects of their service to the children with SEN in the school, staff within the school through development and the wider community.

The school has two purpose-built departments, one for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) or severe learning difficulties (SLD) and the other with autism spectrum condition.

  • Ofsted Education: Outstanding
  • EYFS and Primary
  • Ages 2 to 11 years  
  • Girls and boys
  • 90 day places
  • On-site therapy team, hydrotherapy pool, spa pool, soft play room, sensory room and outdoor learning spaces
  • Minimum student to staff ratio of 2:1
  • A maximum of eight students in a class. Classes are matched in terms of peer relationships and ability.
  • Teaching and caring for children on the autism spectrum and with severe and complex medical needs since 2008

This special school are seeking a professional who is:

  • Experienced or trained healthcare assistant  
  • Experienced supporting children or young people with complex medical, physical or sensory needs  
  • Experience working with primary aged children in educational, care or play settings is highly beneficial
  • Trained or open to training to support children with personal care (toilet support), moving and handling, feeding and/or medication administration
  • Knowledgeable and confident supporting children with academic learning
  • Keen to challenge and build self-esteem in pupils with special needs
  • Dedicated to supporting the vision and ethos of the school
