Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant – SEN Primary School (Bury)
Teaching Personnel are recruiting for a confident, proactive, and motivated Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary SEN school in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate with prior SEN experience who is looking to build a long-term career within specialist education.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils within small class groups, working both 1:1 and in small groups to help them access learning and develop key life skills.
You will work closely alongside the class teacher and wider support team, playing a key role in managing challenging behaviours and supporting pupils with personal care needs where required.
The role requires a hands-on, adaptable, and proactive individual who can respond effectively to the varying needs of pupils throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEN on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Assist the teacher with delivering tailored learning activities
- Implement Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
- Support and manage challenging behaviour using positive strategies
- Provide support with personal care and physical needs where required
- Encourage pupils’ social, emotional, and communication development
- Help maintain a structured, safe, and engaging learning environment
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff
- Monitor and report on pupil progress and wellbeing
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN
- Confident, resilient, and proactive approach
- Comfortable supporting personal care and managing challenging behaviour
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
- Passion for pursuing a career in SEN education
Desirable Skills
- Experience within a SEN or specialist school setting
- Knowledge of needs such as ASD, SEMH, SLCN, or complex needs
- Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake training)
- Interest in progressing into teaching, therapy, or educational psychology
