Autism Support Assistant

Bury, Greater Manchester 

Full-Time | Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm 

Start Date: October 1st 2026

Teaching Personnel is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and highly inclusive primary school in Bury, seeking a full-time Autism Support Assistant to join their supportive team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work in a school that prides itself on creating a positive environment where pupils feel safe, valued, and empowered to succeed.

The Role

As an Autism Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping children access their learning and develop essential life skills. You may work on a 1:1 basis with a pupil or support small groups of up to four children, tailoring your approach to meet their individual needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils with autism throughout the school day
  • Encouraging social, emotional, and academic development
  • Promoting independence, confidence, and positive behaviour
  • Adapting learning activities to suit individual learning styles
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families
  • Creating a calm, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in supporting children with autism or additional needs (school-based experience is advantageous, but transferable experience is welcomed)
  • Patient, empathetic, and genuinely passionate about helping children succeed
  • Confident in adapting support strategies to meet individual needs
  • A strong communicator who can build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents
  • Proactive, organised, and committed to inclusive education

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
