Teaching Personnel is recruiting a caring and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a fantastic specialist primary school in Bury. The school supports pupils aged 3-11 years with a range of complex needs, including Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The Opportunity
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to provide tailored support that enables pupils to engage in learning, build confidence, and reach their individual goals.
No two days are the same. From communication and sensory-based activities to celebrating small but significant milestones, you'll play a key role in every pupil's journey.
Your Responsibilities
✅ Deliver 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with PMLD, SLD, and ASD
✅ Assist in implementing personalised learning programmes linked to EHCP outcomes
✅ Adapt activities to suit a wide range of sensory, communication, and developmental needs
✅ Support alternative communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, visual timetables, and sensory resources
✅ Encourage positive behaviours through consistency, patience, and relationship-based approaches
✅ Facilitate sensory, play-based, and experiential learning opportunities
✅ Build pupils' confidence, independence, and emotional wellbeing
✅ Provide personal care support, including feeding, toileting, changing, and mobility assistance when required
✅ Contribute to a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment
What We're Looking For
Essential
Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, particularly PMLD, SLD, or ASD
A patient, compassionate, and resilient approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Confidence supporting pupils with complex learning needs
Ability to adapt to individual requirements and changing situations
Commitment to a full-time, long-term position
Comfortable supporting personal care needs
Desirable
⭐ Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, or other communication systems
⭐ Teaching Assistant qualification or SEN-related training
⭐ Previous experience within a specialist school or SEND setting

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
