General Science Teacher

Science Teacher Required for Autism Specialist School in North West Leeds

• Experience of differentiating lessons for learners of varying levels
• Knowledge and understanding of planning to meet the needs of pupils with Autistic Spectrum Conditions
• Training in Team Teach, ASC and/or PECS would be an advantage

A specialist Autism School situated in North West Leeds are seeking a Science teacher for a long term position from September 2016.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of meeting the needs of learners with Autism, on both the higher and lower end of the Spectrum. You will have a firm grasp of your subject, with the ability to teach across the science curriculum. Applications will be welcomed from both experienced Fully Qualified and Newly Qualified Teachers.

You will be able to deliver balanced Science curriculum, with a focus on social, communication and life skills. You will have the confidence to teach small groups of students on the autistic spectrum (ASC) and co-ordinate the delivery of appropriate courses from P levels to pre entry level, entry level, level 1 & level 2 courses as appropriate. You will ensure that students make at least expected progress towards their IEP and academic targets

Experience or training in Team Teach, SEND, Picture Exchange Communication (PECS) or other Autism specific training would be an advantage and a passion for supporting pupils with Autism is essential. You will have a clear understanding of the needs of all students and be able to use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support them. You will be able to use an appropriate range of observation, assessment, monitoring and recording strategies as a basis for setting challenging learning objectives for students, monitoring learners’ progress and levels of attainment.
