English Teacher – Oldham

Full time English Teacher required for an Ofsted graded ‘Good’ school for a fixed term contract until July 2020.

Teaching Personnel, the market leader of education recruitment in the UK, are currently working in partnership with one of our partner secondary schools in Oldham who are seeking to recruit an inspirational English Teacher to join them on a temporary basis initially. Following the successful completion of the fixed term contract (January 2020 – July 2020), there is a strong possibility of the successful candidate being offered a permanent role.

  • Full time Teacher of English required from January 2020
  • Temporary contract until the end of the academic year in the first instance
  • Potential introduction to a permanent role
  • ‘Good’ secondary school in Oldham
  • Teaching English Language and English Literature up to GCSE level
  • Pay in line with MPS and UPS (GBP24,373 - GBP40,490)

Our partner school is located in the Greenfield area of Oldham, and is currently oversubscribed with over 1300 students currently enrolled from the surrounding areas of Uppermill, Diggle and Delph. In their most recent Ofsted inspection, the Senior Leadership Team were identified as raising the standard of teaching and learning across the school, as they continue on their journey to becoming ‘Outstanding’. The school building is situated just a short drive from Oldham town centre, and is a short walk from both bus stops and a local train station.

“We are looking for an engaging and inspiration English Teacher to join our hardworking team from January 2020. In English we love exploring how writers use language to create an impact on readers. We do this by examining and reading a range of different texts, from poetry, to novels to a range of fiction and nonfiction texts from different times and places. Once we understand how writers create exciting effects on their readers we can begin to improve our own writing. In English we write creatively and for different purposes, improving our use of language, organisation, punctuation and grammar. Communication includes speaking as well as writing, which is why in English we expect our students to work in groups or independently to present information to the class to help improve all aspects of communication.” Head of English.

As an English Teacher at our partner school, the successful candidate will be joining a highly successful and collaborative department that consistently perform to a high standard and post excellent GCSE results. The department ensure that quality teaching and learning is taking place through structured collaborative planning, that is reviewed and updated on a regular basis. Prospective applicants to this post should have experience of teaching both English Language and Literature to KS3 and KS4.
