Exciting Opportunity: English Specialist Teaching Assistant

Are you passionate about English language and literature? Do you have a strong desire to support students in their journey to becoming confident and proficient readers and writers? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as an English Specialist Teaching Assistant at an Ofsted good secondary school in Audenshaw.

Role Overview:

As an English Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the English department and helping students develop their literacy skills. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Literacy Support: Providing targeted support to students who require assistance with reading, writing, and comprehension skills. You will work closely with individuals and small groups to improve literacy outcomes and foster a love of reading and writing.

  2. Resource Development: Collaborating with teachers to create engaging and effective teaching resources and materials. You will adapt resources to meet the diverse learning needs of students and ensure that they are aligned with the curriculum objectives.

  3. Classroom Assistance: Supporting teachers during English lessons by providing additional assistance to students, facilitating discussions, and reinforcing key concepts. Your presence in the classroom will contribute to a positive and supportive learning environment.

  4. Assessment and Feedback: Assisting in the assessment of students' literacy skills through observation, marking, and providing constructive feedback. You will help track student progress and identify areas for improvement.

  5. Behaviour Management: Implementing effective behaviour management strategies to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment in English lessons. Your supportive approach will help students stay focused and engaged in their learning.

  6. Data Analysis: Assisting with the analysis of student data to identify trends and patterns in literacy attainment. Your insights will support teachers in developing targeted interventions and strategies to support student progress.

Requirements:

  • A strong background in English language and literature, with a degree or equivalent qualification in English or a related subject.
  • Previous experience working with young people in an educational setting is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, teachers, and colleagues.
  • A passion for education and a commitment to supporting students of all abilities to achieve their full potential in English.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience, with the ability to adapt your approach to meet the individual needs of students.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
