Phonics Specialist Teaching Assistant Salford Primary School (M5)- Experience required in Read Write Inc. or Letters and Sounds Phonics Schemes

Experience required in planning and delivering small group intervention sessions centred around Reading and Writing development and Literacy support

Level 3 qualifications or above required

A large two form entry primary school in Salford have approached Teaching Personnel to recruit a specialist Teaching and Learning Support Assistant to work alongside the class teacher. The role will consist of planning and delivering high quality phonics intervention sessions. The role is to start in September working across their Year 1 and Year 2 classes. The successful candidate will have good experiences working in key stage 1 in primary school and someone who can use their own initiative to help raise attainment in Reading and Writing. The Salford primary school are hoping to gain their best ever KS1 Reading and Writing results and to ensure they can continue the development into next academic year the Head teacher would like to add a new Phonics Specialist.

On a daily basis you will be working with children aged 5-7 years. These children are mainly working at lower than expected age related levels for Reading and Writing. The majority of children in the four classes arrive from socially deprived backgrounds and have little academic support at home. There may be some behavioural needs so it is important that you can use a range of strategies to ensure poor behaviour does not impact on learning and the development of the children's Reading and Writing.

The school are currently using Read Write Inc. as the primary phonics scheme for the KS1 children and the impact has been very positive. The members of staff in the Salford school have had a number of training sessions centred around Phonics delivery and so the subject knowledge and pedagogy across school is excellent.

The Salford primary school is located 15 minutes from the centre of Manchester and perfect for public transport links. There are already a number of staff working in school through Teaching Personnel and the general reviews are positive for the way the Head teacher and Teachers work. The School is graded "GOOD" by Ofsted from a recent inspection in 2017.

In order to apply for this role, you must have the following;

An accredited Level 3 qualification in Teaching and Learning in Schools.

Prior experience in a KS1 class, supporting children with additional needs or with Reading and Writing.

The School have also specified that it would be preferable to have the following;

A specialism in English Language, Literature or Linguistics at A-Level or Degree Level.

Training in Phonics delivery either in Read Write Inc. or Letters and Sounds.

Prior experience in delivering small grouped Reading and Writing interventions.

Experience working alongside children with challenging behaviour and special educational needs.

If you are interested in this role and you have suitable experiences and qualifications then please do not hesitate to contact Pat on 0161 242 1792 or by emailing a CV
