Job description

Design & Technology Teaching Assistant / DT Technician – South Manchester

Location: South Manchester
Start: ASAP / Ongoing Opportunities
Contract: Full-time and long-term opportunities
Sector: Secondary Education

Teaching Personnel are looking for Design & Technology graduates, practical subject specialists and aspiring DT Technicians to work within secondary schools across South Manchester.

We are particularly interested in individuals with knowledge or qualifications in areas such as Design & Technology, Product Design, Engineering, Resistant Materials, Graphics, Textiles, Food Technology or other related practical subjects.

You do not necessarily need previous experience working as a school technician. If you have strong practical knowledge, are confident using tools, equipment or specialist materials and would enjoy supporting teachers and pupils during practical lessons, we would be keen to hear from you.

The Role

Working within a secondary school DT department, you could be responsible for:

  • Supporting teachers and pupils during KS3 and KS4 practical DT lessons

  • Helping pupils safely and confidently complete practical tasks

  • Preparing tools, equipment and materials for lessons

  • Setting up and clearing away practical workspaces

  • Supporting the safe use of machinery, tools and specialist equipment

  • Assisting pupils with practical projects and coursework

  • Providing classroom support during theory-based DT lessons

  • Helping teachers maintain an organised and safe practical environment

  • Supporting stock preparation and general department organisation

Who We Are Looking For

This opportunity could be ideal if you:

  • Hold a degree or qualification in Design & Technology, Engineering, Product Design, Art & Design, Food, Textiles or a related subject

  • Have strong practical skills and good subject knowledge

  • Are confident working with tools, materials and practical equipment relevant to your specialism

  • Would enjoy supporting young people with practical projects

  • Are organised, proactive and safety-conscious

  • Can work effectively alongside teachers and other support staff

  • Are interested in developing a career within education, teaching or technical support

Previous school experience would be beneficial but is not essential for candidates with the right subject knowledge, practical ability and attitude.

A Great Opportunity for Graduates

For graduates considering teacher training, this is an excellent opportunity to gain meaningful classroom experience while working directly within your subject specialism.

You will have the opportunity to see how practical subjects are delivered within a secondary school, support pupils with their learning and build valuable experience within an education setting.

If you are based in or able to travel around South Manchester and have a background in a practical Design & Technology subject, we would love to hear from you.

Apply today to discuss current DT support and technician opportunities across South Manchester.
