The School based in Chichester are looking to appoint a Cover Supervisor to start in September to supervise whole classes during the short term absence of teachers. During times where cover may not be required, there would be a requirement to step in as a Learning Support Assistant.

It really is an excellent time to join this school. The school achieved a ‘good’ ofsted rating where leaders have ‘high aspirations and moral intent’ and ‘students experience a suitably broad curriculum with access to extensive activities, clubs and trips that prepares them well for the future’. They have recently upgraded their facilities and being a small school, they really are able to install important qualities underpinned by their motto of nurture, inspire and challenge that makes for a positive & happy learning environment.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be required to supervise whole classes during the short term absence of teachers. A Cover Supervisor is similar to a teacher in that they are responsible for a whole class of students and deliver the lesson that has been set by the usual teacher; however it is not a requirement to have specific subject knowledge. Instead, you should be able to build excellent rapport with students and manage a class well to ensure to continuity of learning. As part of your role, you would be expected to implement school policies as usual to maintain a high level of standards and expectations so that students remain on task. You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills that ensure understanding and to report back to staff concerning pupil progress.

As a cover supervisor at this at this school, it is essential that you:

Have experience of working in a school and/or with young people.
Have Good knowledge of IT (Word, Excel and other Office programs)
Have an ability to build appropriate professional relationships with children and adults
Can use initiative within boundaries – problem solver with a “can do” approach
Flexible as you will not have a regular timetable
Are educated to at least level 2 (GCSE A* - C or equivalent) in English and Maths
Have an ability to keep calm in pressurised situations
Have good communication skills both oral and written
Have excellent time management and organisational skills

It is fundamental that Cover Supervisors at this school are able demonstrate they have experience of working with secondary age children in a leadership style position. The school welcomes applications of graduates from any national curriculum subject, however can consider non-graduates who have suitable experience; you may have worked as a sports coach, youth leader or previously a Learning Support Assistant.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
