Job description

Behaviour Support staff are needed to work in an outstanding school in Lewisham. This school supports pupils with Autism as well as additional needs. The right candidate will have plenty of school based experience in working with pupils, through one-to-one intervention and group support. You will be supporting Key stage 1, 2 and 3 classes of mixed special needs therefore you will need to be versatile in your approach, tailoring your support based on the pupil you are working with. The classes have approximately 10 pupils per class, with the teacher and 3 teaching assistants per class.

This role is challenging, however, the pupils often get attached to the staff, so the school are seeking only those who are available on a long term basis. This is to ensure continuity for the pupils.

As the school are currently undergoing a re-structure, it is most likely that you will be considered for more than one position.

To be put forward for this position you will be required to have the following:

  • A naturally caring and supportive nature.
  • Experience working with children with SEN.
  • Immediate, full time, availability.
  • A DBS on the updated service, or be willing to complete one asap.
  • Have completed training relevant to this position (first aid, moving and handling, safeguarding, Makaton, PECS is desirable but not essential).
  • Can provide excellent references from previous employment.
