Job description

Teaching Personnel are currently working on behalf of an OFSTED graded "Good" school in the Bedale area to recruit a support assistant to support children (11-16 years) who have a range of behavioural difficulties. The successful candidate will be required to work on a full time basis until January 2019 at least.

The School, located within beautiful surroundings, hosts around 200 pupils with Special Educational Needs and has access to a 5.5 acre farm on site. The school has excellent sporting facilities and is easily accessible from the A1 and the A19. It also offers on site parking.

We are looking for someone who has a strong personality to support children with a range of behavioural difficulties. All applicants should posses the correct behaviours in order to support SEMH students within the classroom. Ideally applicants will have experience dealing with challenging behaviour, although this is not essential. Candidates with a background in Youth Work, Sports coaching, Ex Police / Army Personnel or Drama will also be considered.

The ideal teaching assistant will -

  • Have experience of working with or caring for children of a relevant age
  • Have numeracy/literacy skills (at a level equivalent to NQF Level 2)
  • Have an understanding of the role of the Teaching Assistant and other professionals working in the classroom
  • A Patient and nurturing mannerism with excellent behaviour management skills
  • A passion for working within a specialist SEN setting

You will have a desire for working with children and be looking to make a real difference. You must be a strong role model, motivated and dedicated to providing outstanding teaching support. You will have the opportunity to work alongside other support assistants and an experienced special needs teacher. You will also benefit from the schools exceptional CPD and in-house training schemes. Additional training such as Team Teach and de-escalation is advantageous.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
