Behaviour Specialists Required for Primary Schools

Job description

Teaching Personnel are working to support a primary school situated in the St Austell area who are looking to appoint Behaviour Support Learning Mentors.

The Behaviour Support Learning Mentor will support the class teacher in addressing the needs of children who require assistance in overcoming barriers to learning.

The Behaviour Support Learning Mentor will work with a variety of pupils, but give priority to those who need the most help, especially those -

- children with special or medical needs

- challenging behaviour

- children with a statement of special educational needs

The successful applicant will be required to work with children on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, acting as a -

- listener

- facilitator for learning

- motivator

- role model

Essential Person Specification

- Good interpersonal skills and an ability to relate and communicate effectively with children, staff and parents

- Good literacy and numeracy skills

- Ability to build relationships

- Knowledge of the understanding of the developmental needs of children

- Experience of working with primary age children with special educational needs

- A caring, approachable, firm, understanding, consistent, assertive and calm nature

- An understanding of children's needs

Desirable Person Specification

- Childcare/child development qualification

- First Aid certificate

- Experience of working as a learning mentor/behaviour support assistant to support children with challenging behaviour

These positions are full time, Monday - Friday 8.45am - 3.15pm term time only. Start date January 2019 or as soon thereafter.
