Autism Support Teaching Assistant

A fantastic teaching assistant opportunity has arisen in a challenging school in Merthyr Tydfil. As part of a faculty working under new leadership, you will be expected to help implement the new policies and positive change   already making noticeable differences within the school.

The role involves working with a year 8 pupils 1:1 who struggles with emotional and behaviour rationalising and needs a behaviour buddy to help them with their academic and social interactions around the school. The pupils statement is full time and anyone with autism, ADHD or experience with challenging behaviour is encouraged to apply. However, those who are passionate and have the right attitude to make a difference in a child’s learning are highly desirable to the school.

• GBP57-GBP63 per day
• Initial temporary contract with opportunity to go permanent based on your performance
• January 6^th start date
• Full time school hours

A recent ESTYN inspection has commented on the need for an improvement towards behavioural ethos and pupil engagement. Subsequent reports have commended the staff on their commitment to turning this around and already the learning atmosphere in the school has become incredibly positive.

As a highly driven teaching assistant wanting to help each student achieve their very best, you will also be working with pupils with challenging behaviour on a one to one basis. Specifically, you will be required to support the teacher maintain a strong learning environment for all students.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

• Will be confident dealing with challenging behaviours.
• Have experience working with children, 11-16 year olds preferable but other age groups will also be considered.
• Will be able to help influence classroom behaviour.
• Will be punctual, professional and adaptable in difficult situations.
