Teaching Personnel are recruiting for an ALN support Teaching Assistant to join a Secondary school in Newport.   This role is to begin when schools reopen, but there may be an opportunity to join the school earlier and support students in their hub provision.  The role will be for the rest of the academic year, and pending a review in July the successful applicant may have the opportunity to join the school for the next academic year.

About the Role:


The successful applicant will be joining a large secondary school.  The hours you will be expected to work are usual school hours Monday-Friday.

Daily pay rate between GBP60-GBP70 

Working as an ALN Teaching Assistant you will be based within the schools Learning Department Centre and provide support for pupils with additional learning needs.  Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Monitor the pupils response to the learning activities and modify or adapt the activities to achieve the intended learning outcomes.
  • Establish productive working relationships with students acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • To give positive encouragement, feedback and praise to reinforce pupils efforts and develop self-esteem
  • Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of pupils working independently
  • To promote the inclusion of students with additional learning needs (ALN), encouraging students to interact with each other.
  • To support pupils in developing social skills both in and out of the classroom.

The school follows a structure in which you will be assigned to a particular group of students (usually between 8-10) and attend all their lessons to offer support in class.  You will also be required to work on a 1:1 basis with students providing well-being interventions. 

The majority of your role will be spent working in the school's Learning Development Centre (LDC) and you will be fully supported by the schools ALNCO (Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinator) and other staff within the centre.   There are a number of specialist teachers and 20 other Teaching Assistants in the team to support you. 

Whilst working in your group lessons you will be in a team consisting of one class teacher, and 3 teaching assistants.
