1:1 Teaching Assistant required in Lymington!

Teaching Personnel are currently working with a Special Educational Needs School who are looking to appoint a SEN Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis.

Special Needs Teaching Assistants support students with special educational needs (SEN) in the classroom as directed by an SEN teacher in order to help pupils succeed with their learning.

It takes a very special person to work with pupils with additional needs however class sizes can be as small as 4/5 pupils and there is a high ratio of TA support. You will be supporting pupils with Aspergers and associated difficulties so ability levels can vary considerably. You'll be working with other professionals within the school, e.g. speech and language therapist, occupational therapist and psychologist etc.

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting a year 7 pupil that presents challenging behaviour. This pupil is very energetic so the role does require some fitness. The school have had real success with this pupil, especially when paired with the right person.

The successful candidate should:

  • Have a sense of play and fun, but also should be calm, resilient, firm, have clear boundaries and a drive to work hard
  • Have knowledge/interest and experience working with Aspergers, ASC/Autism or other learning difficulties (LD)
  • Be able to use positive reinforcement when supporting behaviour difficulties - experience of working with pupils with ADHD would be an advantage
  • Be a patient and positive role model for children
