1-1 Autism Teaching Assistant

Job description

A Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in York are recruiting a Specialist Teaching Assistant (TA) to work one-to-one with a pupil in Key Stage 3 (KS3) who has Autism. This position is to start after the October half term, specifically - 5th November 2018.

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant you will be required to:

  • Manage challenging and obsessive behaviours
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and/or Personal Care Programmes
  • Encourage social development and establish a constructive relationship with the student
  • Be patient, clam and have an excellent awareness of the individual needs of the student

To become a Teaching Assistant you must therefore:

  • Have experience supporting an individual with Autism
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Be patient, calm and flexible
  • Hold an Enhanced Child Only DBS and register it with the Update Service (assistance can be provided through Teaching Personnel)

Pay: £9 - £12 per hour

Location: York

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
