Youth Worker

If you're experienced in working with young people and have a knack for breaking down tricky barriers held up by social and emotional issues, we need you.

We're working with an independent behaviour provision school who are in need of people with a youth work background, or education background with experience in supporting SEMH, to work in a number of support roles within the school.

About the role

The students needs can vary but all have a common ground in stemming from mental health issues and social and emotional problems. Due to these needs students can display challenging behaviour and can be difficult to build rapport with, which requires you to be tactful at communication, patient, understanding and open to help them feel at ease.

You will mostly support them in the classroom with their set curriculum, which includes core and vocational subjects - certain skills or knowledge of a particular vocational specialism would be ideal. You may need to help break down the work, adapting it to suit their specific learning needs or work with students on a 1:1 basis to help them engage.

You should be familiar with or able to manage challenging environments and able to cope with altercations, whilst maintaining safety at all times and remaining under control. Training in courses such as Team-Teach or MAPA would be ideal, and are available to train in through Teaching Personnel's CPD Academy.

The hours are approximately 8.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday and the role is on a permanent basis.
