A client Primary school of Teaching Personnel in the Beeston area of Leeds (LS10) have got in touch with the agency as they require a Year 5 teacher on a part-time basis until at least Christmas 2022. If you are experienced in upper KS2 and have good knowledge of the curriculum then you could be exactly what the school is looking for! Read on for details…

About the school

The school need someone to take the class for 3 days a week beginning in September 2022, although this may well be reduced to 2.5 days as the Christmas holiday approaches. This is because they currently have a staff member off on long-term sickness absence, and the school what like to do a very gradual phased return to ensure they are back for the long run. Therefore, the school need someone who can work collaboratively with this teacher and make sure the Year 5 class are supported and up to speed due to the extended period of school closures, whilst being flexible to adjust the other teacher’s role according to their progress. This role is until at least the Christmas holidays 2020 and of course would be extended on a half-termly basis if the school felt this necessary. The days worked will depend on the workload the other teacher will be able to take on at a time, therefore some flexibility in this sense would be greatly appreciated by the school.

The school itself is the Beeston area of South Leeds and is therefore easy to get to by car, bus or train, with amply parking space available and is just a 10 minute journey from the Leeds City Centre. The Head has been at the school for 5 years, and when last inspected by Ofsted in 2018 the school were graded as GOOD, and the Head has kept the results consistent at the school over a number of years. The school is a lovely environment to work in, and although behavior at times can be challenging in particular classes it is dealt with effectively by members of staff through de-escalation and remaining calm – which is vital to the school’s behaviour policy.

This particular Year 5 class (currently Year 4) are at times loud and disruptive and therefore need a teacher who is focused on keeping them on task and can be firm when necessary – whilst baring the school’s behaviour policy in mind. There are two autistic children in the class and both are supported by a specialist SEN TA who has worked with them throughout a number of different year groups. They are taken out of class when necessary and they are becoming too agitated for lesson time.

The ideal candidate would be someone with good experience in Year 5 (ideally in the last 12 months). The school also want a strong teacher as the class can be distracted at times, and this of course would not prepare them effectively for Year 6. Any particular specialism in Maths would also go a long way as this has traditionally let the school down in recent years.

If you are interested in this particular role, then please apply by submitting a CV where indicated or, apply through the Teaching Personnel website.
