Job description

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? We’re seeking dedicated, empathetic, and experienced LAC Tutors to support Looked After Children across Sunderland.

About the Role:
As an LAC Tutor, you’ll provide one-to-one tuition to children and young people in care who need additional educational support. Your role is to help bridge gaps in learning, build confidence, and ensure every child reaches their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored 1:1 tutoring sessions (in core subjects such as English, Maths, and/or Science)

  • Create engaging and inclusive lesson plans suited to each learner’s individual needs

  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to carers, schools, and the Virtual School

  • Adapt to different settings: online, in-home, or school-based environments

What We’re Looking For:

  • Teaching qualification (QTS/QTLS) or relevant tutoring/education experience

  • Experience working with vulnerable children, particularly LAC or SEND learners

  • Strong communication, organisation, and safeguarding awareness

  • DBS certificate (enhanced) – or willing to apply

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
