Teaching Assistant (SEMH)

We are seeking a resilient, compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Farnborough, supporting pupils aged 9–16 with social, emotional and mental health needs and associated challenging behaviour.

The school is based on a well-equipped, spacious site with a strong focus on both academic and vocational learning. Facilities include outdoor learning areas, sports spaces and a gym, alongside dedicated classrooms designed to support smaller group learning and structured routines. The environment is designed to help students feel safe, supported and ready to engage.

This role is well suited to individuals from a range of backgrounds—including education, youth work, care, coaching, or support roles—who are confident building positive relationships and supporting young people to re-engage with learning.

About the Role
You will support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them manage behaviour, regulate emotions and access education in a structured, supportive environment. A calm, consistent and proactive approach is key.

The Role Includes:

• Supporting pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour

• Building strong, trusting relationships

• Assisting with personalised learning activities

• Promoting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies

• Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff

About You:

• Patient, resilient and adaptable

• Confident managing or de-escalating challenging behaviour

• Passionate about supporting young people with additional needs

• Experience in education, care, youth work or similar is beneficial but not essential

• Willing to learn and develop within an SEMH setting
