Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) Learning Support

Are you passionate about supporting students with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) in their educational journey? Join our team at Teaching Personnel, where we are committed to providing high-quality support and opportunities for educators supporting students with complex needs. We are currently seeking a dedicated Classroom Support Assistant to join our PMLD unit, where you will play a crucial role in facilitating sensory and activity-based learning experiences for our students. Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with teaching staff and therapists to support students with PMLD in accessing the curriculum through sensory and activity/play-based learning approaches.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of individualised learning activities and interventions, incorporating alternative communication methods such as PECS cards to facilitate student engagement and interaction.
  • Create and implement sensory-rich learning environments within the classroom, utilising a variety of resources and equipment to stimulate student senses and promote exploration and discovery.
  • Support students in developing communication, social, and independence skills through structured activities and play-based learning experiences.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students during lessons and activities, adapting approaches and resources to meet individual needs and preferences.
  • Assist students with personal care tasks and mobility support as required, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members, including therapists, SENCO, and parents/carers, to develop and implement support strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior incidents, and interventions, contributing to student assessments and reviews as needed.

Requirements:

  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with students who may have limited communication and mobility skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, sharing ideas and best practices to enhance student learning and development.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, adhering to school policies and procedures at all times.

Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain) is required for this role.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
