Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Southampton to recruit an experienced Teaching Assistant to support a Year 2 class.

This role is primarily general classroom support, working alongside the class teacher to ensure all pupils are able to access learning effectively. In addition, the successful candidate will deliver targeted intervention groups, supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The school is looking for a calm, patient and confident practitioner who is able to build positive relationships and provide consistent support both in and out of the classroom.

The role will include:

• Providing general classroom support in a Year 2 setting

• Delivering small-group intervention sessions focused on SEMH needs

• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, engagement and behaviour

• Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement support strategies

• Creating a safe, nurturing and structured learning environment

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school

• Experience supporting children with SEMH, either 1:1 or in small groups

• A good understanding of behaviour management and positive reinforcement strategies

• A flexible, proactive and supportive approach

• A genuine commitment to supporting children’s wellbeing and progress
