The Head Teacher of an independent special school that offers day and residential placements for students aged 7 - 19 is currently looking for a number of behaviour support assistants to start with them as soon as possible. The students have difficulty learning as a result of their emotional, social and behavioural difficulties in addition to Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Asperger's Syndrome.
The School
They help develop young people's emotional well-being and social skills. The aim is to develop students to be effective learners so they are able to cope better with the things they find challenging. They do this through a focus on establishing positive and healthy relationships, emotional well-being and developing social skills. They are currently on the look out for 2 additional teaching assistants to work through us initially with the likelihood of a permanent contract after a specific amount of time. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone who is fancying a change in career or if you have a keen interest in behaviour and/or psychology.
The school have an in depth induction process where they will go through the relevant policies and procedures in order for you to have the right amount of knowledge to start your new adventure. The school are even willing to put you through their own behaviour management training which is a great opportunity for you.
The Ideal Candidate
Worried you haven't got specific experience - do not panic - the school are big believers in the right fit personality wise. The ideal candidate for this school needs to have resilience in abundance, humour & the ability to use your initiative in challenging situations that may arise. Key characteristics of the ideal candidate for this school is anyone who has an interest in supporting challenging behaviour within an alternative provision, psychology graduates and sports orientated candidates. The children within the school have responded well to Psychology Graduates, Sports Graduates and ex-prison officers.
