Here at Teaching Personnel we are currently working alongside one of our partner Cardiff Secondary Schools that are looking to recruit a Behaviour assistant for a position working withing the Secondary School’s specialist behaviour base.

As a Behaviour Buddy, you will need to have the ability to build strong, trusting and stable relationships with young people, and be consistent in your approach to behaviour management. Although this role will mainly be on a 1:1 basis you will often be asked to support with small group interventions within the behaviour provision and on occasions have to support the pupils in the mainstream classes as the school look to integrate these pupils on a phased basis.

The School have specified the need for someone with some life experience, that can lend their experiences to the support of these pupils. One aspect of the role is to act as a role model/mentor and to support not only with education hut with the pupils concentration & attention by keeping them focussed and engaged throughout the day

The perfect candidate will have:

  • Previous experience of supporting challenging behaviour and supporting young people's Social Emotional and Mental Health Needs would be desirable
  • The ability to build relationships and use your own life experience to act as a role model/behaviour buddy
  • The ability to support pupils that are in risk of reaching crisis point (Team Teach training can be provided by Teaching Personnel)
  • A thick skinned, resilient personality  in order to work alongside pupils with challenging behaviour and at risk of exclusion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A passion to make a positive difference in a young person's life
  • Access to a vehicle is desirable
  • Sensitivity to the challenges relating to young people

Pupils that struggle in mainstream lessons may need extra encouragement and support to ensure they stay on track with the goals that they have individually been set by the Teacher of behaviour unit base. Often pupils will have individual development plans which you will be required to monitor and feedback to the appropriate members of staff. You will be able to provide support both on an academic and pastoral basis; providing emotional support where appropriate. The affects of lockdown on young people may be seen for a long time to come, the support provided by our schools when reopening will see you lend your hand to not only support with behaviour but also to support with mental health and wellbeing. The pupils you will be working with may not have found it easy to access online learning and therefore may feel frustrated and show signs of challenging behaviour while transitioning back into school life.

As you will be supporting different levels of challenging behaviour the school have specified that the right candidate will need be very resilient and not easily offended as the pupils you will be buddied up with often have changing moods/behaviours which will need to be supported in a personalised way.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
