We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist secondary school in Stoke-on-Trent for a compassionate and dedicated Complex Needs Teacher to join their team from September 2026.
This rewarding opportunity is ideal for an experienced teacher who is passionate about delivering high-quality education to pupils with a range of complex learning needs, including Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), physical disabilities, sensory impairments and complex medical needs.
Working in a highly supportive environment with small class sizes, experienced Teaching Assistants and access to multidisciplinary professionals, you'll have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people while helping them develop academically, socially and emotionally.
The Role
As a Complex Needs Teacher, you'll plan and deliver engaging, highly personalised lessons that meet the individual needs of every learner. You'll create a nurturing and inclusive classroom where pupils feel safe, valued and supported to achieve their full potential.
You'll work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and pastoral teams to deliver a holistic approach to education that focuses on communication, independence and life skills alongside the curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver creative, differentiated lessons tailored to individual EHCP outcomes.
- Adapt teaching using sensory, visual and practical learning strategies.
- Create a structured, positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Support pupils with communication, personal care and physical needs where required.
- Deliver engaging activities that promote independence, confidence and life skills.
- Assess and monitor pupil progress, maintaining accurate records and contributing to annual reviews.
- Work closely with Teaching Assistants to ensure consistent support and high-quality learning experiences.
- Build positive relationships with parents, carers and external professionals.
- Promote safeguarding, wellbeing and positive behaviour throughout the school day.
About You
We're looking for an enthusiastic and patient teacher who is committed to inclusive education and passionate about helping every pupil succeed.
You will ideally have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching pupils with complex learning needs, Autism, PMLD, SLD or physical disabilities.
- Strong knowledge of EHCPs and differentiated teaching strategies.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- A calm, resilient and nurturing approach.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
