TA withe experience in BSL / Makaton required ASAP
Job description
This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...
I currently work with a large SEN School in the Chorley area who are seeking Teaching Assistants to support the needs of their pupils from September. Although the BSL / Makaton experience isn't essential (it is more desirable that you have experience supporting children / adults with SEN), those with such skills are highly sought after. The school use BSL and Makaton to support the needs of their students who are deaf or hearing impaired and also to engage with those with learning difficulties.
You will also:
- Take into account the needs of your learners
- Help them communicate with others in class
- Support them by lipspeaking and notetaking
- Interpret between spoken English and BSL
- Be creative in adapting learning materials to match learners' interests
- Use a range of ways to help them grasp what is required in class
- Help students to produce written work
- Support learners in talking about their learning needs with teachers
- Build relationships with learners, their families, and other professionals
- Think of ways for learners to become more independent
- Provide deaf-awareness training for other staff and students
- Support the school/college in improving the environment for hearing aids and lipreading
You may also be required to support the needs of other students with SEN including PMLD, SLD, ASC and complex needs therefore experience in this area would be preferable. You must be willing to provide personal care.
If you have excellent communication skills and would like to further develop an understanding of deaf culture, this could be the job for you.
