Do you have experience as a Support Worker, Health Care Assistant or Youth worker?
Are you based in Isleworth, Twickenham or Hounslow?
This is an exciting role in Isleworth for someone looking to transfer skills learned through experience as a Support Worker in a special need school setting. This is a great opportunity to also develop skills and knowledge in therapies, resources and approaches from specialists in the field. You will work with young people in class and in the community with a range of developmental needs and some with a challenging nature.
Role
- Good behaviour management skills and the ability to engage hard to reach young people
- Positive/Physical intervention training is beneficial (Positive Behaviour Support, Team Teach, MAPPA)
- Confident working with young people with autism and/or challenging behaviour
- Confident mentoring young people 121 and in small groups
- There are 8-10 pupils in a class with a dedicated staff so team work is essential
- Monday to Friday (8:45 - 16:00)
- June 2020 start
The following backgrounds and experience are also desirable.
- Support work, health care assistant, Youth and community work experience
- Working knowledge of meeting the emotional, physical, social and mental health needs of young people
- Desire to take a supporting role in alternative education setting
The school in Isleworth deals with secondary aged pupils and students in sixth form (post-16 education) that are of a vulnerable nature diagnosed with autism and social needs. You will work closely with your colleagues to create action plans for students across Key Stages 4 and Key Stage 5, taking an active role in implementing a programme that positively encourages learners to overcome barriers improve their skills and ultimately gain recognised qualifications or work experience.
You will need to have strong behaviour management and interpersonal skills in order to effectively support students, communicate with families, carers and a multidisciplinary team of teaching staff. You will be organised, patient and confident, with a sound understanding of the key issues currently affecting young people with autism or social difficulties.
