The role will entail leading a small group of support assistants leading the assessment and also directing staff to interventions that are required for specific children. The SEN pupils are working towards reaching learning targets and there will be daily planning involved. The pupils are on the spectrum and have sensory requirements aswell as social, emotional and mental health difficulties. The classes are smaller than mainstream and you'll have a case of children from each year group to work with and plan interventions for.
The school are looking for someone who is confident, organised, who can use their own initiative and meet pupil development targets.
The ideal candidate:
- Have Speech and Language Therapist qualifications
- Have experience of working within a school or with children delivering Speech and Language sessions.
- Experience working with challenging behaviour and complex learning needs.
- You will need to be confident, organised and be able to lead a team
- Flexible, adaptive and versatile individual
- Undertaking assessments
- Writing reports
Qualifications and training required
- A degree accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is required. This can either be an undergraduate or postgraduate degree. Competition for postgraduate places is strong, so relevant work experience can be helpful. Undergraduate degrees usually take three to four years full time and postgraduate programmes usually take two years.
