Job description

Are you committed to helping young people with additional needs access education, grow in confidence, and reach their full potential? We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our team.

About the School

  • A specialist independent school for children and young people aged 7–19 with autism and associated complex needs.
  • The school offers a 38–52 week day and residential programme — delivering specialist education, therapeutic care and personalised support.
  • Small class sizes and high staff-to-student ratios ensure each young person receives the individual support they need.

The Role – Teaching Assistant

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support teaching staff in delivering differentiated learning, helping students access the curriculum through individual and small-group support.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, setting up lessons and resources, and contributing to a positive, structured learning environment.
  • Support students with additional needs — including autism or other social, emotional or developmental challenges — with sensitivity, patience and respect.
  • Monitor and record student progress, behaviour, wellbeing and development, assisting with therapeutic or care plans as needed
  • Support with personal care where required.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is caring, patient, empathetic and committed to working with children and young people with special educational needs.
  • Has good communication skills, the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and the multidisciplinary team (care, therapeutic, teaching).
  • Is adaptable and able to respond flexibly to changing needs — every student is different and needs individualised support.
  • Ideally has previous experience in a school or care setting, especially with SEN / autism, or a willingness to train and learn.
  • Understands safeguarding and child-centred practice; is committed to supporting welfare and promoting pupils’ emotional and social development as well as academic learning.
