Location: Cranborne, Dorset
Contract: Permanent, 40 hours per week, term time only
Salary: £22,996 – £25,068 per annum (actual salary, dependent on experience and qualifications)
Hourly Rate: £12.87 – £14.03 per hour

We support young people in preparing for adult life through personalised academic and vocational programmes. Our approach focuses on developing independence, confidence, resilience, emotional awareness and overall wellbeing, helping students move towards employment, further education or independent living.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students to thrive academically, socially and personally within a safe, nurturing learning environment. You will develop positive, professional relationships with students, always prioritising their wellbeing, safety and individual development.

Working closely with teaching staff, you will help deliver a broad and balanced curriculum both on-site and in the community. The role requires flexibility and may involve one-to-one support for individual students or working with small groups in the classroom. Supporting positive behaviour and encouraging emotional regulation are key aspects of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students’ learning, progress and independence
  • Assist with the planning, delivery and review of educational programmes, plans and reports
  • Contribute to assessing, monitoring and reporting on student progress
  • Encourage independence and life skills at every opportunity
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records
  • Ensure safeguarding and health & safety procedures are consistently followed
  • Promote positive social interaction, behaviour and self-regulation skills

What experience are we looking for?

  • Experience supporting young people with SEND, including autism, learning disabilities, SEMH needs, or complex needs
  • Familiarity with positive behaviour support, de-escalation techniques and emotional regulation strategies
  • Confidence in contributing to planning, assessments, progress reviews and reporting
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, child/young person protection and health & safety procedures
  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach, particularly when supporting students who may display challenging behaviour
  • Strong relationship-building skills, able to establish trust and professional boundaries
  • A commitment to promoting independence, rather than doing tasks for students

It is essential you drive and have access to a vehcile as the school is not easily accessed by public transport.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
