SLCN Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Kirkby)

Start Date: March 2026
Location: Kirkby, Merseyside
Contract: Full-time, Term-time only
Pay: £13.75 – £15.25 per hour (DOE)

A welcoming primary school in Kirkby is looking for a passionate Teaching Assistant specialising in Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). This role is perfect for someone who loves helping children develop confidence, communication skills, and independence in the classroom.

You’ll be providing tailored support to pupils who need extra help with speech and language development, playing a key role in their progress and wellbeing.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Working 1:1 and in small groups with pupils across EYFS and KS1/KS2 who have identified SLCN.
  • Delivering speech and language strategies under the direction of the SENCO and external specialists.
  • Helping to create fun, engaging resources that promote communication and language growth.
  • Tracking pupil progress and sharing insights with teachers and families.
  • Contributing to a positive, inclusive classroom environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children with SLCN or broader SEND needs (school or similar setting).
  • Understanding of speech and language interventions (ELKLAN desirable but not essential).
  • Patient, caring, and enthusiastic about helping children reach their potential.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is an advantage.
